As much as I love the mountains in the Pacific Northwest, I love the vastness of wide open spaces. It allows me to more easily appreciate large cloud formations and night time stars.
Our main trip this year was a road trip to Yellowstone National Park and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It was always a goal of mine to take my future husband to these places, so it was great having this dream finally realized with Ryan and Mom at the end of summer. Ryan had never seen the alien-like terrain of Yellowstone and we were all amazed when we saw over 50 Bison in the park. One of our favorite parts of the trip was the white water rafting down the Snake River, I highly recommend it, super fun! I really enjoyed getting up early a few mornings to catch the sunrise to paint some quick gouache studies of Montana and the Tetons. We also made friends with a sweet cat named "Lionel Ritchie" at the Hostel we stayed at in Wyoming!
